    Lower Limb Physiotherapy

Specialist sports and musculoskeletal rehab for the foot, ankle, knee, hip and everything in between.

Running injury rehab, tendinopathy loading, post-injection and post-surgical rehab — launching August 2026 at both Belfast clinics.

The rehab arm of Belfast's lower limb specialists.

For more than a decade, Lower Limb Clinic has been the go-to destination in Belfast for complex foot, ankle and lower limb problems — plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinopathy, shin splints, knee pain, stress fractures, you name it. Patients come to us when generalist care hasn't worked.

Diagnosis and intervention — ultrasound, injections, shockwave, orthotics — resolve a huge amount of that. But the patients who stay better are the ones who finish their rehab. Structured loading, strength work, return-to-activity planning — that's what prevents relapse.

From August 2026, our specialist lower limb physiotherapy service will deliver that rehab phase in-house. Same clinic. Same records. Same clinicians talking to each other.

    VALD Testing

Objective strength testing, measured in Newtons.

Every lower limb rehab programme starts with baseline strength testing using VALD muscle dynamometry — the same technology used by Premiership clubs and Olympic programmes. We measure calf, quadriceps, hamstring and hip strength in Newtons, track left-right asymmetry, and build your rehab around real data.

Re-tested at every key milestone. Exit-tested before you return to running or sport. You'll see the numbers move — not just feel different.

    What we'll treat

Six specialist focus areas — each aligned with the complex caseload we see at Lower Limb Clinic every week.

    VALD force-plate & dynamometry testing

Objective strength, power and asymmetry data captured on VALD ForceDecks and VALD muscle dynamometry — the same technology used by Premiership clubs and Olympic programmes. Every rehab decision anchored in real numbers, not 'feels 80%' guesses.

    Running & sports injury rehab

Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy, ITBS, PFPS, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, hip impingement. Progressive loading, gait retraining, return-to-run programmes built around your target distance and pace.

    Tendinopathy loading programmes

Structured isometric, isotonic and energy-storage loading for chronic tendon problems. Based on current evidence (Cook/Purdam, Silbernagel protocols) and personalised to your baseline strength and sport.

    Post-injection & post-shockwave rehab

The injection or shockwave session is only half the treatment. Structured rehab in the following weeks is what converts symptom relief into a durable outcome — and we build that programme in the same clinic.

    Post-surgical rehabilitation

Rehab after ankle surgery, Achilles repair, ACL reconstruction, meniscal surgery, foot and ankle fracture fixation and other lower limb procedures. Coordinated with your surgeon's post-op protocol.

    Biomechanical & movement retraining

Gait retraining, running form work, strength and single-leg stability. Often combined with a custom 3D-printed orthotic where the biomechanical picture warrants it.

    Return to sport & performance

Staged return-to-sport programmes with clear criteria — VALD force-plate hop testing, dynamometry strength symmetry, sport-specific drills — so you return when the data says you're ready, not just when you feel ready.
